Vera was born May 20, 1920, in Bowie, Texas, to Walter and Samantha (Gorbet) Swinney, the youngest of six children. Vera attended grade school in Carter and Jefferson Counties in Oklahoma, graduating from the eighth grade in Ryan, Okla., in 1934. She then graduated from high school at La Grande High School in La Grande, Ore. in 1938. Later that year Vera married Sidney Thompson Jr. and they had two daughters, Sharon and Nancy. On July 18, 1953, Vera married Jack Weisgerber in Gardnerville, Nev., and they had two sons, Larry and Jay. After Jack passed away in 1975 Vera continued to live in Billings until 1999 when she moved to Pendleton, Ore., where her daughter Nancy lived. A few years later she moved to Woodburn, Ore., near her daughter Sharon and son Larry.
Vera was at her best when she could be around people and visit with them. She enjoyed playing cards with friends, working crossword puzzles and taking care of her cats.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents and her five siblings Marvin, Leonard, Audie, Paschall (Pat), and Virginia (Sally) and her husband Jack.
Vera leaves behind her four children, Sharon (Thompson) Browning of Portland, Ore., Nancy (Thompson) White of Pendleton, Larry of Tigard, Ore., and Jay of Billings; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held Oct. 3, 1 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Billings.
