Mr. Backer was a long-time member of the Providence Baptist Church in New Bloomfield where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and song leader. He was also a charter board member of Public Water Supply District No. 2, a member of the New Bloomfield Lions Club, a member of the National Model T Ford Club of America, The Kingdom of Callaway Antique Car Club and the Gideons. Fred served in the Navy from June 28, 1944 to June 8, 1946 and fought in World War II. Mr. Backer had been a part owner in the Backer Potato Chip Company and was also a salesman in general merchandising for Wetterau, Inc. Burial will be at Callaway Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum.
