GOUVERNEUR —Raymond L. Canfield, 80, Richville, farmer and retired truck operator, died Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Edward John Noble hospital, Gouverneur, where he was admitted June 7. He had been In poor health for months.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Burr-Green funeral home, Gouverneur, with Rev. G. William Hart, pastor of the United Church of Richvllle, officiating. Burial will be in Oxbow cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home this evening. Mr. Canfield is survived by: His wife, Mrs. Verna A. Canfleld; a son, Wendall, Antwerp; a sister, Mrs. Phyllis Allen, Hermon and two grandchildren. He was born June 12, 1906, at Philadelphia, a son of William R. and Marietta Hewitt Canfield.
He married Mill Verna, Arnold April 17, 1929, at the Antwerp First Methodist parsonage.
Mr. Canfield first worked as a carpenter, building many Lake Bonaparte camps, and was later employed by the Carbola Chemical company at Natural Bridge. He farmed at Nauvoo until expansion of Camp Drum, when he moved to Oxbow to operate the Laidlaw farm. Since 1934, the couple had lived on the Bigelow-Kents Corners Corners road. Mr. Canfield was employed as a heavy truck operator for Jones and Laughlln Steel corporation from 1949 until September 1985 when he retired due to poor health.
