"Effie P. Reed, age 82, of Terre Haute, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend went home to be with the Lord on the evening of Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Cobblestone Crossings. Effie was born in Terre Haute, on March 3, 1930, the daughter of the late Alfred and Esther (McCoy) Hatfield.

She was united in marriage to her beloved husband, Arthur Reed, who preceded her in death in 1996. Effie attended Gerstmeyer High School, and later went on to obtain her LPN. A dedicated servant of the Lord, Effie was a faithful member of Salt of the Earth Worship Center. She loved being surrounded by her family and friends and enjoyed belonging to the Red Hat Society, AARP Terre Haute Chapter, Gathering Bible Study, Christian Women's Club and Friday Friend's Night Out. Effie had a wonderful and loving heart, and often enjoyed just sitting around the table, laughing and playing card games with those she loved. Effie's smile lit up the room and she always loved to have fun and bring joy to others.

She leaves to cherish her memory her four children, Mary Paul of Mishawaka, Esther Little of Terre Haute, James Shockley and wife Teenie of Muscatine, Iowa, and Karen Hughey and husband Stanley of Elko, Nev.; and grandchildren, Eric Paul and wife Tina of Osceola, Meredith Lemley and husband John of Elkhart, Scott Little and wife Kim of Olathe, Kan., Amy Booe and husband Josh of Center Point, Jennifer Derrickson of Charleston, Ill., Jamie Shockley of Bradenton, Fla., Matt Hughey and wife Karissa of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Stephen Hughey and fiancée Lindsay of Reno, Nev. Effie was the proud and loving great-grandma of Kaitlin, Tristen, Jake, Sera, Asa, Kylie, Cameron, Dylan, Jordyn, and Austin. She also is survived by her twin sister, Velma Bateman of Hendersonville, Tenn.; sisters, Elsie Elmore of Terre Haute and Roberta Burns of Brazil; brother, Don Hatfield and wife Mary of Terre Haute; along with several loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, from 4 until 7 p.m. and again on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, from 1 p.m. until Effie's funeral ceremony at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home in Terre Haute with Pastor Tom Simmons officiating.
