1. Elias Eli Groff 1875–1952
2. Samuel Groff 1878–1961
3. Ellis Gerald Groff 1880–1952
4. Curtis George Groff 1885–1946
5. Earnest Howard Groff 1886–1976
6. Baby Girl Groff 1890–1900
7. Jacob Delno "Jake" Groff 1894–1968

Their son Jacob "Jake" was born in a log house 3-4 miles south of Ipava (in 1968 it was the Burgard Place). The family later moved to a 10 acre place just west of Marion School near Leesburg, Illinois that was purchased by Howard and Mallissa.

When their son Jake was about 4 years old, the family decided to move to Oklahoma and homstead a place. Just before they were to leave the Illinois area in December 1898, Howard was loading hogs in a wagon to take to sell and it is said that he took sick, some say he possibly had a heart attach, and he died.

So the move was temporarily postponed. In 1900 Malissa and the boys made the move to Oklahoma.

Jake was 6 years old
Earn was 14 years old
Curt was 16 years old
Ellis was 19 years old
Sam was 23 years old
Eli was 25 years old.

Eli was married and he decided not to go with them. He remained in Illinois near his wife's family.

Sam was also married at the time, but he and his wife went with the rest of the family to Oklahoma.

Malissa applied for and received a land grant for 1/4 section (160 acres) in Woodward County Oklahoma, which is where she and the boys lived and farmed. From the 'homestead' it was 30 miles to Woodward, 15 miles to Arnett, 12 miles to Fargo and 4 miles to Harmon.

Sometimes they would go to town and stay over-night in town. The Siler family had a homestead near there, Jake and Claude Siler were friends.

Earn married Adelia Siler

Ellis married Adelia sister Nina Siler.

When their son Jake was about 16 or 17 Malissa married Daniel Uriah Spangler. Daniel had been married to Malissa's sister, Eliza, and she died. He came to visit and he and malissa were married about 1910 or 1911. At which time she moved to Kaufman, Texas with him. She left the 'Homestead' for the boys to take care of. (Earn and Adelia and Sam and Evie had moved back to Illinois by this time. Traveled in Covered wagons). Jake stayed on the homestead for a while then decided to go and live with his mother and Mr. Spangler.

Mr. Spangler lived in town but he had a farm so they built a house and Jake farmed the place. Mr. Spangler had been a carpenter for 40 yrs. and he taught Jake how to do carpentry and how to frame windows.

They lived on Mr. Spangler's farm near Kaufman, Texas.
