AVCHEN, EDITH, 102, of Aventura, formerly of Atlantic City, NJ, died Sept 14, 2012. Mrs. Avchen, along with her late husband Hyman, owned a pharmacy in Perth Amboy, NJ. After retirement, they moved to Atlantic City in 1965 and in 1978 they relocated to florida. For five decades, she was actively involved and a life memeber of Hadassah. She was a founder of Mayim chapter of Point East. She served in every capacity for the Mayim chapter and was on the Miami Regional Board of Directors. In addition, during her retirement, she was an officer of the Atlantic City Link #17 order of the Golden Chain, Secretary of the Point East Condominium Tenants Club, and a tutor in the Miami-Dade Public School Volunteer program. Services were held at the lakeside Memorial Park. She is survived by her niece, Eleanor Smokler (Leon) and her nephew, Ronald Kaplan (Joan), and her frequent visitor Villy Bernardi.
