Willis Warren Stephens, 65 years old, died at 8:15 o’clock this morning in Freeman hospital where he had been a patient two weeks. Born January 3, 1889, in Joplin, he had lived here all of his life. He was a retired carpenter.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Josephine Bell Stephens of the home, Joplin route 3; three son, Willis C. Stephens, route 3, J. R. Stephens, 1108 Monroe avenue, and Roy Stephens of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Billie Ann Stephenson and Mrs. Birdie Ruth Garroutte, both of route 3, and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be announced by the Steve Parker mortuary.

Belle Stephens

Mrs. Belle Stephens, 84, Joplin route 6, (Bell Center community), died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Medical Center where she was admitted at about five hours previously after suffering an apparent heart attack at her home.

Mrs. Stephens was born March 2, 1894, in Cass County. She moved to Galena, Kan., with her parents when a small child. She later moved to Joplin in 1911. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Temple Chapter No. 95, Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of the former Bell Center Neddlecraft Club. She was married to Warren Stephens, who died Dec. 16, 1954.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Billie Ann Stephenson and Mrs. Birdie Belle Garoutte, both of Joplin Route 5; three sons, Willis C. Stephens and Roy (Nub) Stephens, both of Joplin route 6, and Dick Stephens, 1108 Monroe Ave.; a sister, Mrs Arlene Pitts, Wichita, Kan.; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a m. Monday at Parker Mortuary. The Rev. B.A. Austin Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call at the mortuary after noon today. The family will be at the home of Willis C. Stephens.
