Donald G. Ament, 83, of Killeen, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2012 in Temple. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, September 17, 2012, at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen with full military honors to follow at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, September 16, 2012, at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen.

Don was born in Johnstown, Penn., to the late William and Mary Ament. He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 15 and served for over 20 years before retiring as a SFC in 1967. He served during World War II and the Korean War. Don was not one to talk about his medals and awards. When asked by the family he would say, "Oh I had numerous medals, award and yada, yada, yada." He always said it was a team effort.
Don married the former Mary Frances Ruth and they raised four children. He was the past Post Commander of VFW 3892 Harker Heights and Past District 14 Commander of the Texas Veterans of Foreign War and member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter S W Labombard 29.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances, in 2009; a brother, Bill Ament; and sisters, Barbara Haire and Phyllis Ament.

Survivors include his son, Donald Ament, Jr., of Killeen; daughters, Bonnie Tomczyk and husband, Klaus, Linda Ament, and Jeanette Ament, all of Killeen; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Phillip Ament, of Rowlett, Texas; sister, Peg Bowers, of Chambersburg, PA.; and Army brother, George Bybee, of Oregon.
