Enlisted on 3/1/1862 at Campbell County, VA, he was mustered into "I" Co. VA 2nd Cavalry as a Private.
Hospitalized 3/21/1862 Orange County, VA.
Hospitalized 8/3/1862 Lynchburg, VA.
He was transferred into "2nd" Co. VA Stuart Horse Light Artillery on 4/1/1864.
He was Killed In Action in the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, VA.

The Stuart Horse Artillery Battery was formed in late 1861 as an assisting element for J.E.B. Stuart's cavalry. The battery was made up of men from Virginia, Maryland, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana and Tennessee.

In the Fall of 1862, with the reorganization of the horse artillery, Pelham's Stuart Horse Artillery Battery was divided into two gun batteries which were identified as the 1st and 2nd Stuart Horse Artillery.
