EDGAR EUGENE BEARD

Edgar Eugene "Gene" Beard, born Dec. 24, 1911 in Neches, died peacefully Nov. 12, 2000 in Richmond with his loving and beloved wife of 66 years, Georgia Bee, by his side.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15 at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home at Rosenberg. Mr. Allen Hahn will officiate the services.

Pallbearers are his grandsons, Russell Beard, Joel Beard, Jason Beard, Jon Beard, Marc Norman and Kevin Beard. Honorary pallbearers are his granddaughters and their husbands, Robyn and Mark Foreman, Juli and Jeff Grayless, Karen and Keith Campbell, Erin and Dave Fujimoto, Kim Beard, Trisha Beard, Katie Beard and Jessica O'Connell.

Visitation will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3900 B.F. Terry Blvd., FM 2218 and Highway 59 South, in Rosenberg.

An area resident for over 60 years, he retired from Exxon in 1976 with 41 years service, having worked in Luling and Thompsons. He was a member of Graeber Road Church of Christ and had served as a deacon, an elder and a song leader. He was a wonderful example to his children and grandchildren of what a Godly man should be.

An avid sportsman, he especially enjoyed hunting white-tailed dear. He loved group singing and had a beautiful bass voice. He enjoyed sharing produce from his bountiful gardens with friends and family.

In addition to his wife, Georgia Bee Reeger Beard of Rosenberg, he is survived and will be missed by all his children, Francis Beard and his wife Joyce of Rosenberg, Michael Beard and his wife Nita of Cypress, Janice Norman and her husband Jerry of Houston, David Beard and his friend Mary Lou Garcia of Richmond, Daniel Beard and his wife Ann of Needville and Margie O'Connell of Rosenberg, his grandchildren, Russel Beard of Richmond, Robyn Foreman of Wallis, Karen Campbell of Katy, Joel Beard of Houston, Jason Beard of Spring, Jon Beard of Austin, Erin Fujimoto of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Marc Norman of Hot Springs, Ark., Kim Beard of Houston, Trisha Beard of Richmond, Katie Beard and Kevin Beard, both of Needville, Juli Grayless of Houston and Jessica O'Connell of Rosenberg.

He also leaves three great-grandchildren, Jon-Michael Beard and Jordan and Jeremy Grayless. He is also survived by two sisters, Ethel Smith and Hallie Cely.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J. C. and Addie Florence Gouger Beard, his brother, Jesse Beard, and his sisters, Mabel Elrod and Myrtle Solbakken.
