Daughter of Alfred J Rock and Helen Ayotte. Wife of James E Clukey (1st) and Rene Gagnier (2nd).

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Ruth M. Gagnier, 76, of Silver Beach Ave. and formerly of Sonya Way, Plattsburgh, died Friday, July 10, 2009, at Helifax Medical Center in Florida.

She was born in Plattsburgh on April 22, 1933, the daughter of Alfred and Helen (Ayotte) Rock.

Ruth was a graduate of D'Youville Academy in Plattsburgh in 1949. She had worked in the area as a waitress and accountant. Ruth was a member of St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh and later St. Augustine's Church in Peru.

Ruth is survived by five sons, James "Jimmy" Clukey of Rochester, Michael Clukey of Johnstown, Lonnie Clukey and his wife, Cheryl Mackowski of Cape Coral, Fla., Anthony "Tony" and his wife, Sandra Clukey of Tennessee, John Clukey and his companion, Wendy of Daytona Beach, Fla.; four stepsons, Conway Gagnier and his wife, Sharon of Plattsburgh, Thomas Gagnier and his wife, Anita of Tampa, Fla., Rene Gagnier and his wife, Marylou of Port Orange, Fla., Donald Gagnier and his wife, Francine of Plattsburgh; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Donald Rock of Portsmouth, R.I., Alfred and Kathy Rock of Oswego, Florence Rock of Morrisonville; 5 grandchildren and 12 step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; 17 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Rene Gagnier; and a step-son, Charles Gagnier; three brothers, Charles Rock, Herbert Rock, Robert Rock; three sisters, Bertha Hoffman, Dorothy Pratrie and Mildred Gowett; and most recently a sister-in-law, Cathy Rock.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court St., Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at a time to be announced at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
