Viola Marie Margaret Pearson, 99, of 1945 Cragmont St., died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at Hickory Creek of Madison.

She was born Aug. 23, 1905, in Charlotte, Ill., the daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Berlett Drilling. She was a licensed beautician and was a former resident of Illinois and Florida. She and her late husband owned and operated Pearson's Five and Ten Cent Store and Grandpa's Drive-In in LeRoy, Ill., for several years.

Surviving are two stepdaughters, Ruth Harlow of Madison and Betty Follis of Farmer City, Ill.; one stepson, Robert Pearson of Schererville; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elvin R. Pearson, in May 1985; one son, Benjamin Pearson; two sisters, Geneva Taylor and Lillian Pearson; and one brother, Lloyd Drilling.

A memorial service will be held at Chatsworth and Charlotte Cemetery in Chatsworth, Ill., at a later date. There will be no visitation.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Hickory Creek of Madison Resident Fund or the American Cancer Society. Cards will be available at the Vail-Holt Funeral Home Madison Chapel.
