Hiram Hibbard died Monday, September 11, at the home of his son, E. A. Hibbard, in Pleasant Grove township, Greenwood county, aged 87 years and 9 months. The cause of death was cancer. This dreadful disease first seized him two years ago, and it then so far yielded to treatment as to in spire the hope that it had been conquered, but last winter it again broke out, and with greater virulency. For several months past all hope of recovery bad been abandoned, and the sufferer patiently awaited the end. The deceased was a native of Connecticut, where he lived through all his years, except the last two, which were spent with a son in Kansas City and in Greenwood county where he died. He was a man of many sterling qualities, and was honored and esteemed by those who knew him. The funeral occurred Tuesday, at 3 p. m., and the remains were followed to their last, resting place in Toronto cemetery by a large number of friends of the family. A short burial service was conducted at the grave by Rev. Mr. Kirkpatrick of the U. B. church, and Rev. Bascom Robbins will preach a memorial sermon Sunday at 3 p. m. at the stone school house on Carlisle creek.
