Mrs. Lura Ivory Atkins Buelin York, age 83 of Mt. Airy, passed away Friday, September 21, 2012 at Golden Living Center.

Mrs. York was born in Surry County on January 6, 1929 to Coley Wesley and Hattie Lou Marion Atkins.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.

Surviving are daughters, Carol Stimpson of Pinnacle; Diane Buelin of Winston-Salem; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Dot Bullin of Ararat, NC; Kenneth and Anita Bullin also of Ararat; Rex Buelin of Statesville; Terry and Ellen Bullin of Ararat; and Dennis and Carolyn Bullin of Dobson; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and a sister, Cassie Holt of Mt. Airy.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. York was preceded in death by husbands, Nick Atkins and Alvin York and brothers, Clandis Atkins, Calvin Atkins, Archie Atkins and Otis Atkins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Turkey Ford Baptist Church by Rev. Steven Corn and Rev. Ted Crotts. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Kenneth Bullin.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice at 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice and all the staff at Golden Living for the exceptional care given to Mrs. York.
