LAGASSE, VIOLA (SMITH) 95, of West Warwick, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 4th, 2012 at the West View Nursing Home.

Viola was born in Coventry, RI on January 17th, 1917, the daughter of the late Narcisse "Nelson" and Rose (Cournoyer) Smith.

She was married for thirty-one years and the widow of the late Ambrose P. Lagasse. She is survived by her son Richard A. Lagasse, and daughter-in-law Barbara, her two grandsons Michael Lagasse and Richard "Chris" Lagasse, his wife Diane and three great grand-daughters Katherine, Elizabeth, and Rachel all of Enfield, CT. She is also survived by two sisters, Theresa Fisher of East Greenwich and Patricia and her husband Robert Landry of Summerfield, FL and a sister-in-law Jackie Smith of Coventry. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by three sisters; Violette Lebrun (her twin), Marguerite Cheatham and Yvonne Fortin and five brothers; Roland, Nelson, George, Joseph, Maurice. She began her working career at a very young age working in her father's restaurant along with her brothers and sisters, later in Anthony Mills, and finally in the Coventry School System. Her leisure time was spent at her home on Breezy Lake in Coventry with her husband Amby and during many summer vacations.

In her later years she enjoyed traveling and her camping experiences with her son, daughter-in-law, and grandsons. Viola will be remembered most for her generosity, friendliness, outgoing personality, and positive attitude. She had a bright smile for everyone, a great sense of humor, and was dedicated to her family. Her strong faith provided her with the courage, spirit, and great strength shown throughout her life and especially over the past three years coping with numerous health issues. Those who knew her have benefited by her example of how to live a full and caring life.

The family also wishes to thank her friends and relatives who frequently visited her at West View and also a special thanks to the entire staff of the West View Nursing Home who loved and provided her excellent care.

Her funeral will be Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 8:30 am from the R. A. IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St., (Rte.117), Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. Joseph Church, Natick. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery, West Warwick. Visiting hours Friday 4 -7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148 will be appreciated. www.iannottifh.com
