Grace Roberts Connis was born to Robert and Lillian Roberts on June 29, 1919, in Marcus, Iowa. She graduated from Marcus High School and then worked at a fur company and taught dance classes in Sioux City, Iowa. A little sense of adventure sent her to Hill Air Force Base in Utah to work as a secretary in civil service during World War II. It was there that she met Donald Connis as they were walking out of the PX. He called, "Hey, Red! Want to walk with me?" They were married in September of 1943, just before Don got shipped off to England.

To this union were born three children: Donald of Monterey, Calif.; Richard (Gail) of Woodinville, Wash.; and Candy (Jack) Holzer, residing in Billings.

Grace was a gentle and quiet woman. She loved to sew, quilt, do the daily crossword puzzles and play cards. She was an exceptional cook. She loved her home and we were happy that she got to remain in it until her death.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her sister, Mary; her stepbrother, Albert Tapp; and her husband Don, on Dec. 16, 1992.

Besides her three children, Grace is also survived by her grandchildren, Nikki (Ryan) Burns, Brandy (George) Waterstraat and Brock and Casey Holzer; and her great-grandchild, Emiko Burns. She is also survived by her brother of California, Robert Roberts.

The family would like to thank Edith Bridgewater, who cared for Mom with tender loving care until her death. We were also very fortunate that she lived amongst some great neighbors, who helped take care of her needs when family members could not. They would also like to thank Rocky Mountain Hospice for their continued help. Without them, Mom would not have been able to remain in her home.

Mrs. Connis, 93, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, at 10 a.m., at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, with

Burial immediately following in Mountview Cemetery.

Memorials can be sent to Rocky Mountain Hospice or Meals on Wheels.
