Funeral services for John E. Hughes will be held Friday, September 21, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden. Officiating will be Rev. Malcolm Self and Rev. Ronnie Whitlock. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory in Minden. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home.

John was born April 20, 1936 in Logansport and entered into rest September 18, 2012 in Minden. John worked for Shuler Dixie Dandy stores for over 30 years and retired from Southeast Foods. He was a member of Beech Springs Baptist Church and served as a Gideon, deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years at Antioch Baptist Church and Beech Springs Baptist Church. He enjoyed working in his yard, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn D. Hughes of Minden, son Tommy John Hughes and wife Dinah of Minden, daughters Terri Moore and husband Kirby of Minden, Nicole Hedrick and husband Chris of Heflin, sister Alice Cordova and husband Buddy of Stanley, brothers James Hughes and wife Peggy of Taylor, Kenneth Hughes and wife Barbara of Mansfield, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Tom Garland, Finley Smith, Kevin Hudson, Ronald Wayne Hughes, Jamie Hudson, Thomas Oliver and Wayne Avery.

Honorary pallbearers will be all deacons that served with him at Antioch Baptist Church and Beech Springs Baptist Church and fellow Gideons.
