Cpl. Wesley Snoots was the son of Silas and Margaret Upton Snoots. He was survived by his wife Mamie and half-sister Ruby DeVaughn.
Wesley was a blacksmith who decided to become a police officer in Alexandria in 1924. In 1928 he was badly injured when he jumped in front of a boy on a sled who was speeding towards traffic. He was injured twice more in the following few years, in motorcycle accidents. In 1934 Wesley was assigned to do traffic duty at King and Washington Streets, and was on duty there until his death. He had a special relationship with all the children in the community and was always helpful to tourists. When he died the mayor had flags in Alexandria lowered to half staff.
