Frederick Augustus Brown, affectionately known as "Fred," will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2008, at Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Jimmy Freeman, Jay Campbell, Eddie Duvall, Satch Chaffin, Charlie Brown and Ronald Hayes will serve as pallbearers. On-line condolences may be sent to www.mem.com. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with the arrangements. Fred went home to his Lord December 24, 2008, after an extended illness. He was born January 9, 1946, to Lloyd Lamont Brown, Sr. and Elizabeth Rebecca Miller Brown. He graduated from Carlisle Military Academy. After graduation he joined the Navy and served 2 tours on the USS St. Paul off the coast of Vietnam. Fred retired from BellSouth after 29 years of service. He was a member of Shandon Baptist Church. Prior to his illness, he had served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and on the Property Committee of Temple Baptist Church. He taught a weekly Bible Study at Wateree Correctional Facility for several years. Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Kay Calhoun Brown; his sister, Mildred Seay of Columbia, SC; brother-in-law, Roger Calhoun of Columbia, SC; sister-in-law, Peggie Calhoun of Lexington, SC; 2 uncles, 7 nieces, 3 nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved very much.
Fred was predeceased by his brother, Lamont Brown, Jr. and sister-in-law, Judy Bevel. The family wishes to express appreciation to the staff of Winyah Hospice for their support, especially Kim, his nurse, for her valuable care and concern which he greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Winyah Hospice, 305 Stoneridge Drive, Columbia, SC, (posted The State.com 12/27/2008)
