MADISON, NC ~ Mr. William Fletcher Carter, 89, of Walnut Cove Health Care Center died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Stokes-Reynolds Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Carter was a lifelong resident of Stokes County, was retired from Burlington Industries Inc. and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Della Marie Knight Carter; his parents, William and Bettie Francis Carter; two sisters, Lillie Bell Carter Bostic and Lolene Amos; and a brother, James Grover Carter. Survivors include a son, Jimmy Carter, and wife, Martha, of Madison; daughters Treva Etchison, and husband, John, of Maryland and Mildred Martin, and husband, Larry, of Mayodan; grandchildren Mark Carter and wife Sara of Madison and Lisa Hill and husband Robert of Mayodan; and a great-grandson, Bobby Hill. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Colonial Funeral Home and other times at 1135 Troy Joyce Road, Madison.
