BURLINGTON, N.C. - Mary Sue Arrwood Bumgarner, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012 at White Oak Manor. She was a native of Jackson County and the wife of the late James "Jim" Bumgarner.
Mary was a homemaker and member of Cross Way Church in Altamahaw. She enjoyed crafts and worked for many years in the Activities Department at White Oak Manor. Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
Survivors include her son, Jerry Bumgarner and wife Vivian of Burlington; grandchildren, Tracy (Mark) Beaddles of Sneads Ferry and Dennis (Kim) Apple of Mebane; great-grandchildren, Sarah Midget, Tony Beaddles, Kellie Apple and James Apple; great-great-grandchildren, Jason and Brianna Midget.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Rebecca Elaine Apple; son, Robert James Bumgarner; parents, Jacob "Jake" Arrwood and Nina Taylor Arrwood; sisters, Ruth Sprague and Martha Vance; and brother, Hermon Arrwood.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of White Oak Manor for their kind and compassionate care for Mary over the past several years.
A graveside service to celebrate her life will be conducted Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Pine Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Michael Johnson.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at her son's home, 409 Columbia Avenue, Burlington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or The Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eight Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
