TEN DAY ILLNESS FATAL TO PASTOR

The Rev. J. M. Pickens, 67, Was Former Presiding Elder of Memphis District.

HUMBOLDT, Tenn., Oct. 24. The Rev. J. M. Pickens, 67; pastor of the First Methodist Church, died at his home here tonight after an illness of 10 days.

The Rev. Mr. Pickens, who entered the ministry in 1890, served as presiding elder of the Memphis district for several years and held many important pastorate in West Tennessee. He was pastor of Hays Avenue Methodist Church at Jackson five years before coming here. He had served here the past year.

He is survived by two brothers, the Rev. W. D. Pickens of Jackson and J. W. Pickens of Georgia; a sister, Mrs. Edna Phillips, Crump, Tenn., a daughter, Mrs. F. E. McReynolds of Oklahoma and his wife.

Funeral services will held at the Methodist Church Monday afternoon with the Rev. E. M. Matthews and the Rev. J. N. Blackard of Jackson officiating. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemtery at Jackson Monday.

Active pallbearers will be C. B. Riley, Dr. L. D. Noel. J. B. Turner, John M. Smith. B. R. Bryant and J. R. Nethery. Honorary pallbearers will be all Methodist ministers in West Tennessee.
