A Pioneer Dead
Mr. Jarvis was burned to death Saturday morning at 3:30 in his house in the outskirts of Valley. When the fire was discovered he was beyond human aid.
John F. Jarvis was born in [Illinois] October 4, 1842. Mr. Jarvis came to Washington in the old territorial days five years before Washington became a state. Mr. Jarvis leaves four children and several grandchildren to mourn his loss.
Mr. Jarvis had always manifested lively interest in the affairs of the democratic party, and was an earnest worker in local affairs. His death came as a great shock to our little town and his familiar face will be missed.
The funeral was held Monday from the M.E. church. Rev. Belknap of Kettle Falls, an old pioneer friend of Mr. Jarvis, preached the funeral sermon. The Masons conducted the services at the grave. Those in attendance from away were Mr. and Mrs. Nash Jarvis and Miss Ethel, Charles Jarvis, Mr. and Mrs. Bart Jarvis and babes and Leslie Jarvis of Republic, C. F. Price of Columbia River, and Frank Jarvis and family of Chewela; besides many other old friends were in attendance. Thus marks the passing of one more old pioneer. Valley corresopndent
