Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, Jan 23, for Laura A. Elze, late of 501 Main in Westcliffe. She died Sunday, Jan 19, 1986 at her home folliwing a lingering illness. She was 92. Mrs. Elze, a descendetn of pioneer settlers, was born in the Wet Mountain Valley April 6, 1893 to Robert and Amalia (Knuth) Eikelman. Her mother was the first white child born in the Valley to members of the German colony. A Homemaker, Mrs. Elze lived her entire life here, and she enjoyed gardening, sewing and rug weaving. She was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs. She married Otto Elze on Jan 3, 1912 in Westcliffe. The couple ranched in the Valley, and moved to Westcliffe in 1943.
Mrs. Elze was preceded in death by her husband in 1980, and by two children, Lois in 1933 and Leo in 1981. She is survived by two daughters, Alma Lange and Gladys Elze, both of Westcliffe. Also surviving are six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held today at 10:30 am at the Holt & Dixon Funeral Home Chapel of the Garden in Canon City with Rev. Steven Sparley officiating. Interment will be at Hope Lutheran Cemetery here. A graveside commital service will be held at approximately 1 p.m.
