On 28 Jul 1864 Francis mustered out of the 15th Massachusetts having fulfilled his term of service, in accordance with General Order 28 whereby men enlisted for the remainder of the term of service of the original members of the regiment.
On 24 May 1865 Francis A. "Frank" Rice, 25, married Eliza Ann Stearns, 18, daughter of Lorenzo D. and Sarah (Rice) Stearns, at Charlton, Massachusetts. They had one son, Arthur.
He died on 28 Mar 1900 at Stow, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He was 60 years, 2 months and 9 days old.
