Mrs. Zelene Baxter

Little River pioneer resident Mrs. Zelene Baxter, died Monday morning at Lyons Hospital. Mrs. Baxter, along with her husband, the late Neal Dow Baxter, lived their entire married life on Little River Main Street where Neal was a barber until his death on December 3, 1968. Since then Mrs. Baxter had maintained her residence until moving to the nursing home recently, a move made because of her failing health. Up to that time, she was a familiar figure on Main Street as she made her early morning walks, cared for her flowers and decorated the Barber Shop window with seasonal pictures and flowers.

Funeral services for Mrs. Baxter were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Little River Congregational Church, where she was a member. Officiating was the Rev. Bill best, with burial in Bean Cemetery.

Born February 22, 1888, in Kansas City, she was the daughter of B. L. and Inez Phillips Stine. She married Neal on March 18, 1905, in Lyons.

Survivors include a son, Burdette, of Little River, and a daughter, Billy Deuser of Lawton, Okla.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
