Carl Lawrence Fagerlind, 87 died on September 13 , 2012.

He was born in Waterloo on May 18, 1925; son of Melvin and Jennie Keeler Fagerlind. He graduated from East High School in Waterloo. He worked for the Waterloo Street Department as the assistant city street commissioner and retired from the John Deere experimental farm.

He married Mary Celeste Thome on February 17, 1947 at St. Joseph's Church in Raymond. She died in August 25, 2000.

He is survived by his six children: Cynthia "Sally" Bowser of Waverly, Marvin (Teresa) Fagerlind of Waterloo, Carla (Doug) Francis of Cedar Falls, Mark Fagerlind and (Maria) of Raymond, Mo (Jean) Fagerlind of Elk Run, and Carol (Jim) Willey of Appleton, Wisconsin.

There are fifteen grandchildren: Craig Bowser of Waverly; Liz (Jason) Markey of Grayslake, IL; Matt (Diana) Fagerlind of Washburn; Jessica (Adam) Graham of Waterloo; Emily (Brandon) Taylor of Cedar Falls; Rachel ( Matt) Hancock of Dubuque; Jill (Shane) Klein of Waterloo; Ross (Abby) Fagerlind of Raymond; Ali Fagerlind of Appleton, WI; Cory James Willey of Appleton, WI; Cory Charles (Brittany) Fagerlind of Camp Pendleton, CA; Ariane Fagerlind of Waterloo; Alex Willey of Iowa City; Alysse Willey and Addie Willey of Appleton, WI.

Carl has 9 great grandchildren. They are: Lucy and Miles Markey, Ava and Eddie Taylor, Charlie and Mattix Klein, Madi Duhrkopf, Decklan Fagerlind, and Jacob Hancock.

He is survived by: a brother Dale (Mary) Fagerlind of Rochester, Minnesota; 2 sisters, Edna Mae Fagerlind of LaPorte City and Ginny (Jerry) Holbach of Gilbertville. His favorite cousin was Toby Tyler (Dean).

He was preceded in death by his wife, having shared 53 years of love (and whom he never stopped loving), his parents and 2 sisters, Ruth Fagerlind and Thelma Egner.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard ship during WW II in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Throughout the years he gave to his community and church. He loved to garden, vegetable and flowers both, travel, read (especially westerns), and spend time with family. He loved his time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In more recent years, until he was unable to do so, he volunteered at St Joseph's School working with students. Being Grandpa Carl or just Carl to them was a gift he cherished.

Services will be at 10:00am Monday, September 17 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Raymond with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 – 8pm Sunday at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Home on South Street where there will be a rosary at 4:00 pm and a vigil at 7:00pm There will be no visitation at the church prior to services. Full military rites will be conducted by Gilbertville Nugent-Demuth Post 714.
