Glen Dale Clemsen, the son of Arthur H. and Meta C. (Michaelsen) Clemsen, was born October 7, 1928, at his parents' home in Audubon County near Exira, Iowa and died September 13, 2012, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 6 days.


He was baptized and confirmed at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, Iowa. Glen attended rural school Oakfield #2, the Viola Center School and graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1947. He then helped his father operate the family farm. On February 1, 1951, he was inducted into the United States Army. During his tour of duty he served in Korea and was honorably discharged on November 11, 1952. He then returned to the family farm.


United in marriage to Rosa Jensen on April 24, 1954 at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. Five children: Laurie, Bryan, Susan, Jan and Joy were born to this union.


On the family farm, they grew grain and raised livestock for many years until he retired from farming in 2003. After retiring, Glen continued to raise a few cattle and help out his son with the farming. Glen loved doing lawn work and tending his garden. Together Glen and Rosa enjoyed visiting Denmark and spending time with family and friends.

Glen was a lifelong member of the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. He served on the church council and the cemetery board. He was also a member of the American Legion.


Preceding him in death were his parents; his sister LaVonne and brother-in-law LeRoy Glissmann; his mother-in-law and father-in-law Jens and Johanne Jensen; and his sister-in-law Annabelle and brother-in-law Arthur Hansen.


Survivors include his wife Rosa Clemsen of Exira, Iowa; his children: Laurie Towne of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Bryan (Shari) Clemsen of Brayton, Iowa; Susan (Steve) Finn of Harlan, Iowa; Jan Clemsen of West Des Moines, Iowa; Joy (John) Gajda of Lindenhurst, Illinois; his grandchildren: Megan (Jon) Eastman, Greg, Kirsten, and Maria Towne, Dillon, Aaron, Emmet, Garnner, and Jerrid Clemsen, Katey, Riley and, Keenan Finn, Joseph, Sarah and Rachel Gajda; his great grandchildren: Julia and Kyle Eastman; his brothers: Virgil (Vi) Clemsen of Coon Rapids, Iowa; and Lyle (Jane) Clemsen of Clarion, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
