John Sherrod "Jack" Britt Sr., 80, passed away Jan. 26, 2007, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital. He was the son of the late Mallory A. "M.A." and Claire Watson Britt. He was a Merchant Marine veteran of World War II, served in the Naval Reserve during the Korean conflict, was the former owner and operator of Farmers Supply Co. in Severn and a longtime Northampton County farmer. Jack was a member and deacon of Severn Baptist Church, a founder and charter member of Valley Pine Golf Club, a former Severn Ruritan, and a former Severn Volunteer Fireman. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Lorice Fogleman Britt; a daughter, Denise Britt Helms and husband David; two sons, J. Sherrod Britt Jr. and wife Debbie and Tommy Britt, all of Severn; nine grandchildren, Kristie Helms, Emily Helms, Beth Bland, Dave Helms, Sarah Wells, Michelle Britt, Devin Britt, Celena Pope and Alana Pope; and a sister-in-law, Audrey Stapleton. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Severn Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Hogan and the Rev. Lonnie Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in the Severn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence and suggest memorials be made to Severn Baptist Church, P.O. Box 502, Severn, NC 27877. Wright Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, is assisting the family.
