Coraopolis Pennsylvania
Flight Class 65-3W
Ft. Wolters Texas
U.S. Army
Associated Press, Oct. 13, 1997
SAGO, W.VA, Barth Bartholomae, 54, of Coraopolis PA, was killed, along with three others, when his Bell 206 Jet Ranger crashed into a woody hillside near the Buckhannon River in a remote area of Upshur County. It took rescue workers about 30 minutes on foot to get to the crash site because trucks could not get through the woods. The crashed chopper did not burn. The area is pretty much straight up and straight down, making a difficult extraction for rescuers. The helicopter was owned by Burgettstown PA based Royale Helicopter Service. It was being used to take pictures of a coal preparation plant. The pilot, Bartholomae, was president of the helicopter company. Apparently the helicopter lost power before it went down a witness reported.
