Matthias V. Yount, a well known and highly respected citizen, of the county, died at his home in Mellot, Ind. Monday morning after an illness of a few weeks. He was born March 10, 1832, near Lexington, N.C.
At an early age, with his parents, he moved to Indiana and settled in Fountain county. At the age of 19 deceased attended the Bloomingdale Academy and was a classmate of Speaker Joseph G. Cannon while at this institution. At the outbreak of the civil war he enlisted in Company H of the famous Sixty-third regiment of Indiana volunteers and returned home with a good record. He was a life long Republican, and lived at various times in different parts of the county. A wife and four children, Mrs. Charles Hol, of Newtown, Ind., Mrs. Indiana Little, Urbas, Ill., Mrs. Charles Moorehouse, of Veedersburg, and Hannibal C. Yount, of this city, and three sisters, Mrs. Lucinda Boyd, Mrs. Elizabeth Glover and Mrs. S. H. Elwell, of Yeddo, Ind., and F. M. Yount of Kansas, survive the deceased. The funeral services were held Wednesday at the Lutheran church near Wallace, Ind., interement taking place in the Wallace cemetery.
