Hyrum Smith EWING was the son of George Samuel EWING and Deborah Ann PARSONS.

Hyrum Smith EWING married Mary Lavina PHELPS on 28 Feb 1871 in Sycamore, De Kalb Co., Illinois.

They had the following children:

OBITUARY--Hyrum Ewing was born in Lorraine county, O, September 21, 1841. Died April 22, 1921, aged 79 years, 7 months and 1 day. He was married to Mary Lovina Phelps February 28, 1871, at Sycamore, Illinois. To this union were born 6 children, 4 sons and 2 daughters. One son dying in 1885 aged 2 years named Henry Earl Ewing. Another son, Perry Byron Ewing, being killed in the Santa Fe yards at Chanute December 9, 1915, aged 35 years. The deceased leaves a wife, two sons and two daughters, two brothers and one sister, one daughter-in-law, 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild. All the children were with him at his death except a daughter in Denver, who has sickness in her family and could not be with him. Mr. Ewing was blind with cataracts until a year ago when his sight was restored by an operation and he was able to see everybody again before being called away. Burial was made in Elmwood cemetery in Chanute Sunday afternoon April 24th. The pall bearers were all old neighbors and friends of Mr. Ewing. Mr. & Mrs. Ewing celebrated their golden wedding anniversary the 28th of February of this year.
