Jamaica—Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Jamaica Methodist church for George N. Davison, 88, well known and highly respected citizen of this community, who died Sunday morning at 10:20 a.m. at his home following an illness of several weeks.
Following the services here, the body was taken to the GAR cemetery at Homer, where Masonic rites were conferred by members of Homer Masonic lodge, of which Mr. Davison had been a member over 50 years. N. E. Carrington of Fairmount was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Davison was well known throughout this section, having a one time been cashier for the State Bank of Allerton, and until recently was a member of the bank’s board of directors. Until the Jamaica State bank liquidated several years ago, he was cashier of that bank, retiring when the bank was liquidated.
He was born May 16, 1858, at Bridlington, England, and came to the United States when a young man. He was married twice, and was preceded in death by both wives. He took an active part in affairs of the community and the local church, which he served in an official capacity for many years.
Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Jennie Brumpton, who has made her home with him since 1919, and a brother, J. H. Davison, who lives in England." - Sidell Journal, Thursday, August 8, 1946, page 1, Transcribed by the Homer Historical Society (Obituary provided by Raymond Cunningham)
