According to Contributor: sirstclair (48575403) the family Bible says John Sinclair was born in Whitby, rather than Haldimand Township as per the following obituary. Haldimand is roughly 55 kilometres east of Whitby near Cobourg.

PASSED FOUR SCORE YEARS
Since early in 1898, there has lived Collingwood a quiet, retring old gentlemen, Mr. John Sinclair. He made his home with his daughters, Misses Ellen and Martha Sinclair, on Ste. Marie Street. His manner of life and his advanced age did not bring him in close association with a wide circle of people, but those who were privileged to come into contact with him learned to respect him. Last fall, Mr. Sinclair returned to his old home at Eddystone in the township of Haldimand, couny of Northumberland, and spent the winter with one of his daughters. He returned but a month ago to Collingwood and since has been confined to his home pracically all the time. His eighty-two years of active and energetic life told against him and despite the fondest care of his family, he passed away on Monday night surrounded by all of his children.
Mr. Sinclair came of United Empire Loyalist stock, his parents coming across from the United States after the Declaration of Independence and settling in the township of Haldimand near Whitby, where the now deceased was born on November 11th, 1827. He spent his boyhood and early years of manhood in his native township. In 1847, he married Ellen Haywood and they continued to live in Haldimand until 1870 when they moved to the township of Nottawaga and settled on lot 10, concession 11. In 1896, they retired from farming and moved into Creemore where Mrs. Sinclair died on March 28th, 1898. In the latter year Mr. Sinclair moved to Collingwood and purchased a home for his daughters on Ste. Marie stree and spent the remainder of his days among his children and friends.
The deceased is survived by four daughters and five sons. The former are Mrs. A. Neff, of Nottawasaga; Ellen and Martha, of Collingwood, and Mrs. R.J. Lilly of Eddystone, and the latter are John of Nottawasaga; Lorne, of Meaford; Albert and Milton, of St. Catharines, and our townsman, Mr. Charles Sinclair.
In religion the deceased was a faithful and consistent member of the Methodist church and during his long life was regular attendant at its services. In politics, he was a Conservative, but never took a very active part.
The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, the remains being conveyed to Creemore, where they were interred in the Union cemetery. The services here and at Creemore were conducted by Rev. W.K. Hagar, B.A., pastor of Maple Street Methodist church.
