Tena Mae Jertson 77, of La Crosse, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. She was born in Winona, Minn., on March 1, 1931 to Roy and Elsie (Parpart) Greenwood and was raised in Pickwick, Minn. Tena married Norman L. Jertson on March 28, 1951. They lived several places while Norm served in the Air Force, then settled in La Crescent where they lived for over forty years. They were charter members of Prince Of Peace Lutheran Church in La Crescent where Tena served in many capacities and on many committees over the years.
Tena is survived by her daughters: Nancy (Marc) Oelke and Sally Aasen, four grandchildren, Seth and Emily Aasen, Jared and Kendra Oelke, her sisters, Winnifred Papenfuss and Ruth Harvey, sister-in-law Geraldine Greenwood, many nieces and nephews, and special friends, Howard and Mary Meyer, who were at her side during her brief respite care.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Marvin, Raymond, Harley and LeRoy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at Prince Of Peace Lutheran Church in La Crescent. Pastor Michael Woods will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church or the charity of one's choice. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent is in charge of arrangements.
