Ralph Pettitt Killed While On Peleliu

Ralph Pettitt, about 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Pettit,
Warnerville, was killed in action on Peleliu while fighting
the Japs, according to a navy department message
received this morning by his parents. He is with the Marines.
He is survived by his parents, his twin brother, Robert, who
is in the Army on the Pacific coast, and another brother, Howard.

Memorial Services Sunday For Warnerville Marine

Memorial services for P.F.C. Ralph Pettitt, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Marshall Pettitt of Warnerville, will be held Sunday at 3 p.m.
at the First Methodist Church in Norfolk, with Rev. J. W. Ekwall
of Norfolk and Rev. A. E. Fowler, pastor of the Warnerville
Church, in charge of the services.
P.F.C. Pettitt, who was in the Marine Corps, was killed in action
on Peleliu in the South Pacific, according to a message received
from the Navy Department this week.
Private Pettitt, who was 27 years old, was born in Warnerville
Precinct, attended the Warnerville school and graduated from
Enola High School. He joined the Marines in January, 1942,
trained at San Diego, Calif., and Bremerton, Wash., and left in
October 1942, for Guadalcanal. He saw action there and at
subsequent points where the First Marines fought.
He was due for furlough and had expected to be home for
Christmas.
He is survived by his parents, his twin brother, Robert, and
older brother, Howard.
