Adrian Wood Sluder, 89, of Minford, formerly of Sciotoville, passed away on September 10, 2012 at the SOMC Hospice Center. Born in Sciotoville June 2, 1923, he was a son of the late Edward Lindsay and Clara Belle Buffinger Sluder, a 1940 graduate of Sciotoville High School, and was a Marine veteran of WWII. Adrian worked at Williams Manufacturing Co for 15 years and then retired from Armco Steel Corp in Ashland, KY after 25 years of service. Important to Adrian was that he was a member of Berean Baptist Church for 79 years, but he had attended at Berean his entire life. He had served as Sunday School Superintendant, Sunday school teacher, Jr. High Youth Group leader, the Jail Ministry, visitation ministry, sang in the choir and special music, and served as deacon of the church board for nearly 40 years. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Juanita Elrod Sluder, whom he married on June 30, 1951 in Portsmouth; a daughter, Cheryl Lynne (David) Porter of Sciotoville; a grandson, Adam Tyler (Alicia) Porter of Sciotoville, a granddaughter, Layna Jill (Christopher) Leightenheimer of Misawa, Japan, a nephew, Michael Sluder of Severn, MD and a niece, Carolyn Sayre of Leon, WV. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Homer Henry Sluder and Edward Ellis Sluder; two sisters, Ruth Colombini and Norma Sluder; and three nephews, Roger Sluder, Edward Sluder and Ronnie Sluder. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Rev. Fred R. Mann officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park. The family will receive their friends at Brant's in Sciotoville from 4 until 8 p.m. on Sunday at one hour prior to the service.
