Marvin L Ashby, 80, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away Nov. 7, 2010, at Mount Carmel West Hospital.
He was born Aug. 8, 1930, in Anderson, the son of Jennings and Catherine Marie (Alexander) Ashby. He retired in 1992 from Coca-Cola after 35 years and lived most all of his life in Anderson.
He was a member of Main Street Church of God and Disabled American Veterans. Marvin served in the U.S. Army, Company B, 15th Infantry, 3rd Division, and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Silver Star.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ashby of Columbus, Ohio; nine children, Brenda (husband, Jeff) Sheller and Alpha (husband, Kevin) Broshears, all of Anderson, Tammy (husband, Michael) Dale of Newburgh, Brenda (husband, Steve) Cain of Columbus, Ohio, Michael Ashby of Anderson, Robert Grodhaus of Whitehall, Ray (wife, Terri) Grodhaus of Canel Winchester, Ohio, and John Grodhaus of Ohio; grandchildren, Angela Sheller, Jason Fowler, Amy (husband, Jerimah) Lapole, J. Brent Baker, Joshua Fowler, Jana (husband,Russell) McNeal, Kelli Humphries, Korey Broshears, Dylan Dale and Ashley Dale; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Crose and Judy (husband, Glenn) Skinner, all of Anderson; brother, Michael (wife, Louise) Ashby of Missouri, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Melvina D Ashby; and daughter-in-law, Linda Grodhaus; brothers, Raymond and Blanche Ashby; Max Ashby, Herbert Ashby; sister, Leora and Dallas Pierce, Virginia Thomas; brother-in-law, Glennis Crose.
Services will be conducted at 2 pm Friday at Main Street Church of God with the Revs. Don Billey and Tom Warren officiating. Burial will follow in East Maplewood Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 266.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Thursday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home.
