JACOB ALKEK, 61, RETIRED MERCHANT DIES RITES SET
Jacob Alkek, 61, well known retired general merchant of Victoria for thirty years, died at his home at 703 South Main Street at 2 o'clock this afternoon. He had been in failing health recently, a stroke aggravating his condition this week. Death was directly attributed to a cerebral hemorrhage.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the residence and at 3:30 from the Trinity Episcopal Church. The Rev. Rahbana of Beaumont and Rev. R. N. MacCallum of this city will officiate and interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Tom Hyak, Louis Hyak, Sam Hyak, Arthur Mansur, Isaac Dick, Emil Ayoub, George Massouh and George Dick.
Members of the flower committee are Miss Zella Hyak, Miss Katherine Hyak and Miss Evelyn Alkek.
J. E. Ryan and Son has charge of the arrangements.
Jacob Alkek was born at Tripoli, Syria, on March 21, 1878, a son of Anton Alkek, deceased, and Mrs. Foutine Alkek, who resides here. He came to the Unites States with his parents at the age of 17, settling at Weimar in Colorado Country.
A general merchant there for some 14 years. Mr. Alkek moved to Victoria some thirty years ago and followed the same line of business until his retirement five years ago, one of his sons, Anton Alkek, succeeding him in the grocery business. Another son, Albert B. Alkek, is the enterprising Sinclair agent of Victoria.
Mr. Alkek was highly esteemed and his untimely death has caused much sorrow.
Surviving are his mother; his wife, Mrs. Mary Alkek; three sons, Anton, Victor and A. B. Alkek, all of Victoria; two daughters, Mrs. W. S. Cattan of Victoria and Mrs. A. G. Towell of Beaumont; one brother, Johnny Alkek of this city; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Ayoub of San Benito and Mrs. Emelia Abood of Corpus Christi; and seven grandchildren.
