I was told by Rosemary her name was Rose Mary Schmidt. She didn't like the name Rose, so she just changed it to Rosemary Schmidt Joyce.

HUSBAND - EDWARD JOYCE

HURON – Rosemary (Schmidt) Joyce, 78 of Huron, died Monday, February 27, 2012 at Admiral's Pointe Nursing and Rehab, Huron, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Rosemary was born May 27, 1933 in Cadet, Missouri, to Homer and Kathleen Schmidt. She graduated from Valle High School in Ste. Genevieve and St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis. She married Edward "Ed" M. Joyce on Sept. 12, 1959; he preceded her in death in 1983.

Early in her career as a registered nurse, Rosemary held positions with several hospitals, working in Missouri, Utah and Ohio. She returned to the workforce after more than a decade as a full-time homemaker to serve as a part-time school nurse at St. Peter School in Huron. She then held full-time RN supervisor positions with the Ohio Veterans Home and the Erie County Care Facility in 1993.

Rosemary was a member of The Chapel in Sandusky, and an active volunteer for the church. She was a former parishioner of St. Peter Church in Huron, where she was active in the funeral choir, the Altar Society and more.

Surviving are a son, Thomas Joyce of Chicago; daughters, Kathie (Chris) Canning of Libertyville, IL, Mimi (Rich) Austin of Evans, Georgia, and Megan (Jim) Marinis of Lake Bluff, IL; grandchildren, Drew Moloney, Patrick Moloney, Steven Canning, Kelly Canning, Joe Canning, Bill Marinis, Isabel Marinis and Dustin and Brooke Austin; a brother, Tom (Sarah) Schmidt; and sisters, Jeanne Effrein, Kathleen (Bob) Slowinski and Carol (Bill) Thoma. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Edward (Matthew) Joyce; her parents; Brothers, Harris Schmidt and Jimmy Schmidt; and sisters, Geri Savage and Becky Schmidt.

Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main Street, Huron. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at The Chapel, 444 Galloway Rd., Sandusky.

Contributions may be given to Unison Behavioral Health Group, 544 E. Woodruff, Toledo, 43624 in memory of Edward (Matthew) Joyce.
