Elizabeth Alley was born about 1772 in Russell County, Virginia to James L Alley, Sr and Azby Christian. She first married a Mr Watts and had one known child, James Watts Alley - James took the Alley name. Elizabeth remarried Squire Harvey Osborn. Elizabeth and Squire had 5 known children: Sarah, James Thomas, Hannah, Edna and Mary Jane "Gincy". While enroute to the Indiana Territory with her husband, Squre drowned at the confluence of the Big Sandy and Ohio Rivers. After making her way to the Territory, she returned for her children and brought them to the Indiana Territory. She married Andrew Speer on 13 Apr 1812 in Franklin County of the Indiana Territory. They had one son, Samuel Speer, then she divorced/separated from Andrew about 1818. Elizabeth made her way to Mercer County, Missouri with some relatives where she passed away about 1843 possibly in either Cooper or Mercer County.
