Lillian P. Knudson, age 99, of Athens passed away early Thursday morning, May 5, 2005 at her residence at Lindley Inn, The Plains.
She was born Dec. 3, 1905 at St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of the late George Edwin and Edna Page Allers. Mrs. Knudson was raised in DeSoto & Ironton, Missouri. A graduate of Ironton High School, she attended Southeast Missouri College in Cape Girardeau, both of Missouri. She taught in Iron County Missouri Schools and was elected Iron County Superintendent of Schools. She married Ray Wilmont Knudson on Sept. 15, 1934 in Pilot Knob, Missouri. A 1961 graduate of Ohio University, she had been a resident of Athens since 1954. Prior to Athens, she had been a resident of Salem & St. Louis, Missouri; Park Falls, Wisconsin and Escanaba, Michigan. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Athens and Honorary Life Member of Presbyterian Women, P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter DD, Athens Chapter 175 Order of the Eastern Star and Social Literary Club.
Mrs. Knudson is survived by a daughter, Donna Lee Carlson of Visalia, Calif.; a son, Glen A. (Sheila) Knudson of Athens; six grandchildren- Sue Carlson & Cathy (Jim) Mitchell of Visalia, Calif., Marti (Jim) Johnson of Oneida, Ill., Kent (Dia) Knudson of Athens, Misti (Josh) Blair of Lancaster, and Sean Powell of Athens; five great grandchildren- Christopher Carlson, James & Calvin Mitchell all of Visalia, Calif., Kali Knudson of Athens and Christian Blair of Lancaster.
Beside her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Ray W. Knudson, 1967, a brother, George Allers, 1973 and a son in law, Richard Carlson, 2005. Funeral service will be conducted Monday 1:00PM at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home by Rev. Craig Seitz with burial in West Union St. Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday 5-8PM.
