Grossnickle, Robert W. 89 Aug. 19, 1922 Aug. 16, 2012 Three days shy of his 90th birthday, Robert W. Grossnickle died at home in Oregon City on Aug. 16, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Frances; six children; 25 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Known for his wit and story-telling prowess, Bob found humor and meaning in a life that was rich in experience. Drawing on anecdotes from his adventurous youth in the Idaho backcountry, his family's Depression-era hardships and his military service, he eventually wrote an amazing account of his life. He fell in love with and married Frances Bernert in 1942. Bob made his career in the water conditioning business, retiring in 1984 as an owner of a Tualatin Lindsay company franchise.

Oregon City resident Robert W. Grossnickle died on Aug. 16, at age 89.

He was born on Aug. 19, 1922, in Alta, Wyo., to parents Boyd Kirk Grossnickle and Mary Jane Hastings. He was raised in Mackay, Idaho, where he graduated from high school.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from March 1944 until November 1945.

He attended Coyne Electrical School, and had been employed in sheet metal work, before starting his own water conditioning business; he successfully ran that business until he retired.



His son, Robert Allen Grossnickle, preceded him in death.

A graveside service will be held at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Willamette National Cemetery.
