Pioneer Rosebud Resident Dies

FORSYTH, MT. Nov. 18 ----- Henry Nicholas Grierson, 68, eastern Montana pioneer, died in Hysham, MT., at noon on Friday after and extended illness.

He was a former Rosebud County Sheriff and Assessor, and had been a member of the Montana State Grass Conservation Commission Board.

Mr. Grierson was born in Creetwon, Scotland, march 19, 1881, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Grierson.

He was six months old when he arrived from Scotland with his parents, who homesteaded in Pease Bottom, MT., in the fall of 1881.

Shortly after his arrival in the Pease Bottom area, his father walked to Oregon to obtain a team of horses with which to work the farm.

Mr. Grierson lived at Pease Bottom until 1911 when he moved to Forsyth, MT., as county assessor, serving a four year term.
He then served as sheriff of the county for six years.

He was appointed ranch manager for Swift and Company in 1921, serving in South Dakota, Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming.

He had made his home in Hysham, MT., the last eight years.

He married Charlotte Featherly in Butte Nov. 15, 1906.

Surviving are the widow, a daughter, Mrs., Bruce Buckley of Kansas City, MO.;
a brother, James B. Grierson of Hysham; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Holmes of Hysham, and Mrs.
Herman Eldering of Myers, MT., and two grandchildren.

He was a member of Hiram lodge No. 52, A.F. & A.M., Allenby Commandery and the Royal Arch Masons, all of Forsyth, MT., and Al Bedoo Shrine Temple of Billings.

The body is at Beals Funeral Home in Forsyth.
