FAIRMONT — Charles Edward Wells, 90, of Kingmont Community, passed away at his home Wednesday (Aug. 18, 2010).

He was born at Joetown on May 12, 1920, a son of the late William Wrias Wells and Goldie Maude (Shriver) Wells.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Doris I. (Ranard) Wells.

He served in the U.S. Army. He was the owner and operator of C&C Radiator for more than 10 years. He then worked at Leezer's Auto on Virginia Avenue and retired from Morgan's Auto Parts after many years of service. He was an over 50-year active member of Mount Harmony Community Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Rusty Swearingen of Fairmont; his grandchildren, Russell Alan Swearingen, Raymond Swearingen and his wife Jo Ann, all of Fairmont, Brian Swearingen of Bruceton Mills and Craig Swearingen of Fairmont; and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a niece, Linda Lou Wells; a cousin, Bill Wells of Weirton; and two nephews, Larry Lemley and Charles Lemley.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Wayman Vaughn Wells; and his sister, Ernestine Hostutler.

Mr. Wells' family would like to give thanks to his neighbors, Gary Cattafesta, Carl and Vicki Crandal and Linda Bingamon; their friends at Mount Harmony Church including Mary Ann Pyle, Barbara Kisner, Earl Martin and Pastor Ruth Hall; and also to Hospice Care of Anmoore.

Friends and family may call at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., from 2 to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 1 p.m. Friday. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Ruth Hall officiating. Flag-folding military honors will be conducted at the funeral home by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard. Interment services will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery.
