AUTO MISHAP IN COLORADO FATAL TO FALLS CITYAN
"Colonel" Jenne, 89, Succumbs to Injuries Sustained When Car Crowded from road.
FORMER BUSINESS MAN
Store Founded by Pioneer & Son Still in Operation: No Plans for Funeral Services.

William W. Jenne, prominent retired Falls City business man, died at 12:30 o'clock this morning in a hospital at Boulder, Colorado, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Boulder last Friday. Mr. Jenne was 89 years old.

Word of Mr. Jenne's death was received here form his sons, Harry and Ralph Jenne, who have been at their father's bedside since the accident.

According to information received here, the car in which Mr. Jenne was riding with his niece, Mrs. Mae Heard, was crowded from the road on a canyon drive near Boulder and overturned. Mr. Jenne suffered several broken ribs and probable internal injuries. Mrs. Heard, who was driving the car, escaped with minor injuries.

The death of "Colonel" Jenne removes a picturesque personality from this community.

A son of Nehemiah and Rebecca (Nye) Jenne, William Jenne was born March 20, 1849, in Essex county, New York. He spent his early boyhood in his native state and attended the village schools there until he was 15 years of age. Later Mr. Jenne taught school in New York state for several years.

On October 12, 1873, he married Miss Florence Murch of Clintonville, New York. The couple celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary here in 1928, a little more than two months preceding Mrs. Jenne's death, on Christmas eve of that year.

Mr. Jenne moved to Missouri in 1877 and taught school at Forest City that winter. The following spring he became associated with the firm of H. L. Williams & Co. at Forest City. In 1880 the firm moved to Sabetha and became established under the name of E. B. Oerhardt & Co.

In the spring of 1883, Mr. Jenne came to Falls City and engaged in the general mercantile business which he traded four years later for what was to become known as the Jenne Opera House block.

Upon disposing of his business here, Mr. Jenne became associated as a salesman for the Tootie, Hosea & Co., traveling the entire state of Nebraska. He remained in this position for a number of years before accepting a position as salesman for the Palace Silk Mills of New York, a position he held for seventeen years.

Mr.Jenne returned to the Falls City business scene in September, 1914, when with his son, Ralph Jenne, he opened the R. H. Jenne, Ready to Wear, store which still is operated by Ralph Jenne.

After a few years, Mr. Jenne retired from active business and has devoted much of his time to travel. In spite of his advanced years, Mr. Jenne continued to take long motor trips and still enjoyed driving his car.

Mr. Jenne was a staunch Democrat and was for many years one of the leaders of his party in southeast Nebraska. During one of the campaigns of William Jennings Bryan, Mr. Jenne served under "Coin" Harvey as chairman for Richardson county.

Long an active civic and lodge leader, Mr. Jenne was a member of the Knights of Honor, Ancient Order of United Workman, Modern Woodmen, the Elks, of which he served as state vice president, Knights of Pythias and the Royal Highlanders.

Surviving are two sons, H. M. and Ralph Jenne of Falls City, and one sister, Mrs. Carrie Blanchard of New York. One son, William Jenne, died here in 1904.

The funeral arrangements will be announced later.
