Robert McCaughey was born August 7, 1919, at Aberdeen, SD, to Lyle and Margaret (Wells) McCaughey. He graduated from Aberdeen Central High School and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Northern State College, Aberdeen, in 1941. He taught and coached at Claremont, SD until he was drafted in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Bob married Genevieve Strauch on July 11, 1943, at Riverside, CA. They returned to Aberdeen and in 1945, they moved to Washington, DC where he worked for Senator Karl Mundt. Bob later ran the Old West Regional Commission for the Dept. of the Interior and moved to Madison in 1975 where he managed the Chamber of Commerce for a short time and became executive director of the Karl Mundt Foundation.
Bob was president of the Administrative Assistants Assn. of US Senators, Outstanding Administrative Assistant of the Senate, Outstanding Alumni of Northern State College, and he was honored by Dakota State University and Madison Chamber of Commerce. Bob was a member of the United Methodist Church, Madison.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: his parents; his wife in 2002; and one brother Richard.
SURVIVORS: include one daughter, Karen Grimstvedt of Lakewood, CO and two granddaughters, Sara and Erin Grimstvedt.
