Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Heenan, 75, 105 N. Ninth St., Norfolk, well-known long time nurse, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church here.
The Rev. Robert Steinhausen of Norfolk and the Rev. Eldon McKamy of Omaha, formerly of Norfolk, will officiate, and burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
The rosary will be recited Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Howser Mortuary where the body will lie in state that day from 3 to 9 p.m.
Mrs. Heenan, who retired in January after a 52 year nursing career, died Monday afternoon at a local hospital.
She was the former Mary Ellen Foster, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Foster, and was born and reared in Tripp County, S.D. A member of the first graduating class of the Spencer Hospital Training School at Spencer. Mrs. Heenan engaged continuously in the nursing field from her graduation in June of 1916 until this year.
She was married in 1918 to the late Frank Heenan, a former sheriff of Boyd County. Mrs. Heenan was superintendent of the Spencer Hospital for many years. In 1947 she and her husband moved to Norfolk where she joined the staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
Mr. Heenan died in 1954 and Mrs. Heenan was also preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Jack (Helen) Houston of Florida and one brother.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Howard (Marjorie) Braithwaite of Norfolk; two step sons and on step daughter. Harold and John Heenan of Omaha and Mrs. Harold (Marie) Croghan of Hollywood, Fla., 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters and three brother, Lucille Foster and Willymun Foster of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Bernard Foster, Floyd Foster and Mrs. James (Olive) Kinzer, all of Colome, S.D., and Mrs. George (Julia) Wilkinson of Gregory, S.D.
