"Mrs. Ida Howard, 86, Alhambra, Calif., died Thursday, Sept. 12, at her home following a lingering illness.
Mrs. Howard was born Jan. 18, 1877 at Trenton, Mo. She was a daughter of the late James and Derinda Brown.
On march 1, 1896, she was married to Sylvester H. Howard at the Christian Church south of Fortescue. They operated a general merchandise store in Fortescue for many years. The couple went to Falls City, Neb., in 1929, and for a time operated the Courthouse Café. They then moved back to Fortescue and again operated a store.
Mr. Howard died April 10, 1938. Mrs. Howard then moved back to Falls City for a time and then to California in 1940, where she has since resided.
Mrs. Howard was a member of the Christian Church and in later years attended the Methodist Church in Fortescue.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Marie Grundy of the home; a sister, Mrs. Joseph Catron, Sr., Fortescue, and a grandson.
The body was brought to Falls City funeral home to await the services which were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the Fortescue Methodist Church, J.W. Stone officiating. Burial was in the Forest City Cemetery.
Mrs. Marie Grundy and Mrs. Gertrude Brown of Alhambra accompanied the body here."
