Robert W. ''Bob'' Sheppard, 80, of Vienna, died Feb. 18, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born Nov. 4, 1921, in Vienna, a son of the late Henry and Virginia Sprague Sheppard.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 150 Infantry in Panama and Guatemala. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received while serving in Germany and retired from the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant.

He was retired from the Wood County Schools as a teacher in the Vocational Dept. He was a member of the Wayside United Methodist Church, Men's Bible Study group and served as an usher.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge 169, Nemesis Shrine, Ben Bey Grotto, PHS Stadium Renovation Committee, PHS Foundation, the Geritol Club and the VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Morgan Sheppard; two sons, John and his wife, Mary of Florida and Richard ''Scooter'' and his wife, Denice of Parkersburg; two daughters, Virginia ''Ginny'' Smith of Belpre and Nancy Whitlatch and her husband, Hal of Rockport; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, Angela Folio and her husband, Terry of Columbus, the Rev. Randall C. Morgan of Tennessee, Nancy and Edward Cales of Hinton, W.Va. and Julie Liebreich and her husband, Lyle of Columbus; one sister-in-law, Margarete Milles of Vienna; and several stepgrandchildren and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice ''Rudy'' Sheppard after 50 years of marriage.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Wayside United Methodist Church. Revs. Joseph Kenaston, Joe Nelson and Randall C. Morgan will officiate. Entombment will be in Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Military graveside rites will be provided by American Legion Post 15. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. today at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home of Vienna and one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the PHS Foundation or to Wayside Memorial Fund.
